  1. US Map Wall Art

    Thursday, May 31, 2012

Add a punch of color to your wall with this map wall art project!

My oldest son's room has a retro car theme, and I have seen several license plate maps that I wanted but didn't like the price tag.  So I decided to make my own wall art.

I started by using my Silhouette to cut out three maps:  two on cardstock and one on scrapbook paper.

Then, I taped the cardstock map to a piece of foam (I repurposed an old foam play tile) and used my razor blade to cut the mat to fit the outline.  I then taped the second cardstock map to the back of the foam.

I used Mod Podge and tissue paper to cover the edges.
Next, I adhered the scrapbook paper map to the front with Mod Podge and painted around the edges with Distress crackle paint in Brushed Pewter.

Finally, to highlight the cracks in the crackle paint, give the paper an aged look,  and seal the project,  I tinted Americana Gloss Varnish with Ranger alcohol ink in Latte.  I brushed this over the surface and edges.

Now my son has a cool map that fits in with his car themed room!  This could also be done with other shapes and papers to fit different room's decor!  Fast, very frugal, and fabulous!

Thank you for visiting my corner of the web!  I'd love for you to follow via Facebook or  Google Friends to keep up with me!

That is really cool! I've been wanting something similar to this for a while but all the stores seem to charge buck loads for a map like this! Certainly going to remember this one for a future crafty project!

I'm so glad I check the Silhouette blog today because I found your blog via them. I was looking for bday gift ideas to make using my Silhouette for a neighbor and good friend. He's from Chicago so I thought maybe a subway art type of decor, but now I think your project is even better. I really like the paper because I love the scrapbook paper "State of...". Really, he's such a fit and young "older person", that "state of peace" describes him perfectly! How big is your project? I guess it's smaller than the 12x12 scrapbook page? Wonder if my Michael's has this collection. Thanks for a fantastic project. I'm a new fan!

    21. Hi there!
I am featuring your project tomorrow during Sticker Time. I hope you have the time to add my button to your post. Thank you for linking up to my party!

    22. This is one of the coolest projects I have seen. Thank you so much for sharing. Pinning this for when I have time to make one myself!

    23. I am loving this! You did a great job. Thank you for entering your projects at the Craftastic Competition. Good luck!

    24. Who makes the paper? I've never seen it at any of the stores I shop at. Hope they still make it. This is a great project.
