Coco inspired papel picado card to make using Oly-Fun Fabric and a Silhouette cutting machine. This is a sponsored post with Fairfield World but all ideas and opinions are my own.
I somehow managed to miss or ignore all the hype about Disney’s new movie, Coco, until a week before Thanksgiving when my youngest two kids begged me to take them to see it. I am so glad they asked to see this movie. On top of being visually stunning, the story was very sweet and the message was wonderful. Inspired by the papel picado banners in the movie, I decided to make this “love eternal” card. The design is very intricate, and since tissue paper would rip I decided to use my favorite alternative textile, Oly-Fun fabric. It cut beautifully!
Supplies Used to Make the Papel Picado Card: (affiliate links included)
- Fairfield Oly Fun Multi-Purpose 20-Inch Craft Material, 3-Yard, Cherry Pop
- Papel Picado – Amor Eterno Cut File from the Silhouette Design Store
- Xyron Creative Station Lite (5 Inch with 3 Inch Option)
- White Card Blank
- Flower Cabochons
Step one: Cut a 4 x 6 inch piece of Cherry Pop Oly-Fun fabric and place it on the Silhouette cutting mat.
Step two: Open the “Amor Eterno” svg cut file. Choose the fabric/thick/canvas settings on your Silhouette Cameo. Cut the design from the fabric.
Step three: Peel the design off the cutting mat and set it aside. Clean your mat off.
Step four: Place the design on the Xyron Creative Station Lite and roll it through the machine. This adds an adhesive to the back of the design, basically turning it into a giant sticker! Remove the plastic protective cover, and carefully peel the cut design from the backing.
Step five: Line up the cut design and attach it to a blank white greeting card. Use a pick up tool or an eraser to carefully pick up any adhesive residue. Trim the card if needed so the design is centered.
Step six: Embellish one of the skulls by gluing on small flower cabochons. I love this three dimensional pop to the card!
