I presently live in central Texas, where we hardly ever see snow. As a matter of fact, it’s still in the 70s here, and we’ve yet to have our first freeze! I do find myself missing that first snowfall of the season, which always seems so magical and special. (I don’t miss the 10th or 15th snowfall and cabin fever….but that’s another story) A shortage of snow doesn’t mean that I can’t bring some of the magic of a snow covered scene indoors! With just a few supplies you, too, can create this sparkly “snow” covered metallic centerpiece.
Supplies:
- DecoArt DA070-51 Elegant Finish Metallics, 10-Ounce, Shimmering Silver
- Acorns
- Candle Sleeve
- DecoArt Decoupage Glue, Matte Finish
- Epsom Salt
Step one: Paint the acorns and the candle sleeve with the metallic paint. Two applications of the metallic silver paint are enough to achieve a brilliant metallic finish.
Note: Make sure you freeze or bake any acorns you collect so you won’t have any wiggly surprises later!
Step two: Get two small cups, and fill one cup with DecoPage and the other cup with Epsom Salt. Dip just the acorn cap in the glue and then dip the glue covered in the salt. Set the acorn aside to dry.
Assemble the candle and acorns on a platter or dish, and place a battery operated tea light in the candle sleeve. Your “snow” covered metallic centerpiece is ready! This would also make pretty mantlescape decor, don’t you think? You could also make several more metallic acorns and fill a bowl with them to make a unique decorative accent. Have fun crafting and creating this winter!
