Take a budget cabinet from drab to fab when you give it a makeover with paint and fabric. Easy to follow DIY project.

I was recently invited by Furinno Furniture, my sponsor for this post, to makeover anything from their site.  They had so much to choose from that it was hard to pick one piece!  In the end, I opted to go with this cute, compact storage cabinet:

With some paint and fabric, now it looks like this:

It went from budget furniture to luxurious, don’t you think?  Here’s how I made it.

Supplies Used:

Choose a paint that will work on plastic and glass, otherwise you will need to lightly sand the surfaces. I used a multisurface paint that would adhere to the slick surface.

Step two: Assemble the shelves, following the package instructions.  I did NOT attach the four light panels that are supposed to reinforce the back of the unit, so omit the last step of the package instructions.

I painted the side panels and the edges of the shelves black.  I also took one of the thin panel pieces that was supposed to go on the back of the unit and painted it black.  I let the first application dry and then applied one more.

Step six:  Glue or staple the thin piece that was painted black in step three to the front of the unit.  Measure to find the middle, and attach it to the front of the shelves to create a visual divider.

This multi-functional piece would work in a lot of different rooms.  Put it in the bathroom and use it to hold towels and other items.  Place it in the family room to hold books, magazines, and remotes.  You could add bins and hooks to use it as a jewelry organizer.  Have fun crafting a creating accent furniture for your home with Furinno!
