Create a unique drink dispenser and make a watermelon tap. This is a sponsored post with Cheddars.
Happy National Watermelon Day! Summertime and watermelon go together in my mind. I have so many great memories of sitting outside as a kid, cooling off with a giant slice of watermelon. While I still love just a simple slice of watermelon, there are other great ways to enjoy this fruit. Let’s get crafty and make a watermelon tap to dispense a refreshing summer drink.
I’m partnering with Cheddars Scratch Kitchen for this project because they enjoy watermelon as much as I do! They’ve introduced a new summer cocktail called Tito’s Watermelon Vodkarita. Doesn’t that sound tasty? It’s made with Tito’s Vodka, watermelon puree, and sweet & sour mix. Hand shaken, poured over ice and topped with a fresh toooed watermelon slice, this is THE drink to try today, on National Watermelon Day!
Supplies Used to Make the Watermelon Tap:
- Tap
- Watermelon
- Knife
- Ice Cream Scoop
- “The Rind” free cut file
- Vinyl
- Small Metal Tub
1.Cut the top off the watermelon. Slice at an angle, like you do when carving a pumpkin, so you can replace the top.
2. Use an ice cream scoop to remove the watermelon meat. Save it for later.
3. Press the tap where you want it to go and trace it with a pencil. Use a knife to cut the hole for the tap.
4. Unscrew the back of the tap. Push the tap into the watermelon, and screw the back on inside the watermelon.
5. Place the melon on the metal tub.
If you want to add the fun lettering like I did, download my free cut file. Cut the lettering (I use my Silhouette Cameo), and transfer it to the watermelon. Instant cuteness with this signage!
My kids and I love to cool off in the summer with Melonade. Blend the watermelon meat and strain it. Mix the melon juice with lemonade. We like to make a 50-50 mixture, but you can adjust that for your personal taste. Serve it with lots of ice. I like to add a few fresh mint leaves to my glass. That makes it extra refreshing!
I hope you get to celebrate National Watermelon Day today! And, really, watermelon day is every day in the summer as far as I’m concerned.
