Make metallic fall door decor using unfinished wood pieces and paint.
I love the way metallics add a touch of shimmer and glamour to the often muted colors used in autumn decorating. I paired a copper metallic finish with an ultra matte white background to achieve a clean, modern look. This piece is perfect for door or mantle decor!
Metallic Fall Door Decor Supplies
- Darice Wood Fall Sign, Unfinished
- Darice Large Leaf Shape
- Darice Maple Leaf Garland, 6 feet (2)
- White Chalky Finish Paint
- Copper Metallic Paint
- Staple Gun
- Darice Wood Glue
Paint the unfinished wood leaf with white paint. I used Chalky Finish paint from DecoArt in a shade called “Everlasting”. The leaf is ready for paint, and no primer or sanding is needed. Let the first layer dry, then apply another layer. I used three layers of paint to achieve the flat matte finish I wanted. Let it dry completely.

Paint the unfinished word cutout “fall” with metallic paint. I used Copper metallic paint from DecoArt. After the first layer dried I painted a second one on. Let this dry completely.

Use wood glue to attach the word “fall” to the painted leaf. Keep the project on a flat surface and let the glue dry completely.

Flip the leaf over. Use a staple gun to attach the fall leaf garland to the back of the wood leaf.

Staple a loop of twine to the back of the leaf to make it easy to hang your fall project.

I hung my metallic leaf decor on my covered front door, and it looks great as an alternative to a wreath! It would also make a pretty addition to your fall mantle decor. It would even work as a pretty piece of wall art. Have fun crafting and creating decor for your home!
