Ever since I saw this light up star in Pottery Barn Kids catalog, I wanted to DIY my own. I used a star shaped chocolate box as the base for my own light up star. I love to be able to use recycled products in my crafting, and this was the perfect way to up cycle and get my crafting fix!

Supplies:
- Star shaped chocolate Box
- Craft paint
- Awl
- Rice Light Strand
- Hercules Tape
Step one: Paint the box and let it dry.
Step two: Use the awl to make tiny holes in the box. I put tape over the spot before I pierced it. This helped to keep the paper from ripping and to help hold the bulbs in place.
Step three: Press the lights into the holes. Insert batteries in the attached case, place the case in the painted star shaped box, and close.
I made a hole in the back to hang my star up, but it can also stand. I simply take the top of the box off when I need to turn the lights on or off.
You could use a square or rectangular box to create a light up word or picture. Use a stencil and paint to spell out a name, then light it up with the battery operated lights! A heart shaped box would be cute, too. Save those boxes…you never know when you might be able to use them! Have fun crafting, creating and recycling!
