It happens every Super Bowl, no matter which teams make it to the finals: my two oldest sons ALWAYS cheer for opposing teams. Every. Time.
They also ask me ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY to make them a shirt to represent their respective teams. Of course, I always say yes. This is what they looked like in 2012:
We usually let them invite a few friends over, and they all have a good time watching parts of the game (between eating and running outside to play.) This year, I decided to play off their annual friendly “rivalry” and make two separate snack tables. An orange table for the Broncos and a green table for the SeaHawks. Of course, being a crafty mamma, I had to make a few decorative items for the football festivities.
Since I’ll be hosting a bunch of 9-11 year old boys, I don’t want anything breakable. Rubbermaid storage containers make great serving trays.
I can prep everything ahead of time, then just take off the lid and serve. To decorate these containers, I used printouts of the team logos and colorful Sharpie markers.
Simply tape the design to the inside of the Rubbermaid container.
Use the Sharpies to trace and color the design. For the star containers, I first painted the bowl white on the outside, then used a star stencil and the Sharpie markers over the dried paint.
I love these sports style drink containers! They’re perfect for a Super Bowl party, and my boys can reuse them later for sports practice. To decorate them, I used my star stencil and Sharpie markers to decorate the Rubbermaid drink bottle.
I made the small logos with shrink plastic and Sharpie markers. Like I did with the containers, I simply traced the logo on the plastic, trimmed it, baked it, and then adhered it to the container.
To make my tablescape a little more “sporty” and interesting, I used old trophies to create snack “towers”. I unscrewed the top portion of the trophy, and hot glued a decorated Rubbermaid container to the top. I can’t wait to see the boys’ faces when they see this unexpected snack bowl!
If you want to give this project a try, you can get a great deal on both Rubbermaid AND Sharpie products at Target. If you text the word COUPONS to TARGET (827438) on your cell phone, you can grab a coupon for $1 off Rubbermaid food storage and $1 off a Sharpie 4 pack or larger.
I hope I’ve inspired you to try something fun and different for your Super Bowl Party. What plans are you making?
