Make a witch welcome mat to decorate your porch with for Halloween! Use thrift store and dollar store items to make this hilarious decor.
This fun witch themed door mat is great way for guests to be welcomed to your door this Halloween! Whether decorating for Halloween or hosting a “Wizard of Oz” party, this mat will make an impression. I used a $1 mat from Dollar Tree to make this project very budget friendly!
I love to decorate for Halloween, but I don’t like gory decorations (my husband does…blech!). I like my Halloween decor to be a little spooky and a lot of fun. I saw this welcome mat idea on Pinterest and immediately knew I wanted to make my own. You can make this project today with a few supplies that you probably already have.
Witch Welcome Mat Supplies
- Door Mat
- Paint
- Socks
- Poly-Fil Fiber Fill
- Shoes
- Glitter
- Decoupage medium
Step one: Paint the shoes with a thin layer of Decoupage, and sprinkle glitter on top. Once it has dried, seal with a light coat of Decoupage. It’s important to use thin applications of paint and glitter, otherwise the glue might crack and peel off if you decide to wear the shoes later.
Step two: Paint the word “welcome” on the mat. I wrote the word in chalk first and then painted over it in purple. Finally, I outlined it with green. I used fabric paint, but any craft paint should work well.
Step three: Stuff the socks with the filler of your choice. I used Poly-Fil polyester filling.
Step four: Place the socks inside the shoes, and hot glue the top of the sock under the mat. Your witch welcome mat is now complete!
Place the mat near your door of choice and enjoy your visitor’s reaction as they have to step over the witch’s legs to walk in your door. My kids think this mat is HILARIOUS and it makes them giggle every time they see it. I made this project last year, and they’re already asking me when I’m going to put the funny witch mat out again. Have fun crafting and creating for Halloween!
PS. If you don’t want to leave the shoes in front of your door, another option is to place a metal stake inside the sock and place the “leg” in your shrubbery or plants. Now it looks like the witch crashed into your garden. 🙂
