Handmade Christmas Ornaments: Shabby Chic Linen Stars

You can never start planning too early for the holidays, so I’m joining up with a fun handmade Christmas ornaments blog hop!  Make sure you keep reading till the end of the post to find out how to see all 31 ornaments!

I have a weakness for vintage and retro inspired designs, which is why I’m drawn to Maya Road products.  I combined their pre-cut linen stars with some of their other embellishments to make shabby-chic stars.  These stars make beautiful ornaments, but they would also make pretty tags on gift bags!

This post first appeared on Blitsy, where I am a Design Team Member!

Supplies:
  • Maya Road Linen Stars
  • Assorted Maya Road Embellishments
  • Wrights Flexi-Lace Hem Facing
  • SoSoft Paint
  • Stencils
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Poly-Fil Filling

Step one:  Use the stencils and paint to create patterns on the linen stars.

Step two:  Place two stars back to back, pin the lace to the stars and trim off the excess.

Step three:  Use embroidery floss to stitch the stars and lace together.  Leave one edge open to insert a small amount of filling.

Step four:  Embellish the star with various embellishments that you like.  I glued on vintage flower trinkets and stitched on and antique jeweled pearl pendant, both from Maya Road.

I’m using these as ornaments, but, as I mentioned, they would also make lovely tags to decorate gift bags with.  You could add lavender instead of Poly-Fil to make scented sachets. With all the various embellishments to choose from, no two ornaments will be alike!
