Make a wedding guest book DIY that will be cherished long after the big day!
This project is a unique twist on the traditional guest book at a wedding or shower. I made this wood wedding guest book for my son’s soccer coach when he got married. We threw a little party for him at practice, and I had all the kids on the team sign the mini wood hearts. They filled the shadow box with the signed hearts. The smaller hearts fill the shadow box up to the bottom of the larger heart, and it creates a beautiful gift and keepsake.
I’m participating in this month’s Craft Lightning round up, where the theme is burlap! Check out the other fun burlap projects from my crafty friends by clicking on the image below.
Supplies used for this Wedding Guest Book DIY:
- Wood Shadow Box
- Tim Holtz Burlap Panel
- Unfinished Wood Heart
- Pack of small wood hearts
- White Paint
- Distress Ink in Walnut Stain
- Alphabet Stamps
Remove the glass and the backing from the frame. If it’s unpainted, paint the shadow box and the large heart white.
Use the distress ink pad with a foam applicator to distress the wood items. Tap the foam square onto the ink pad, then brush the pad gently on the edges of the frame. Repeat this process with the wood hearts, simply inking the edges and leaving the surface unfinished.
Stamp the recipient’s names onto the large white heart.
Use a hot glue gun to attach the burlap panel inside the shadow box. Glue the large white heart onto the burlap, and reassemble the shadow box by adding just the glass without the backing.
Scatter the smaller wood hearts on the table in front of the shadow box, and add a fine point marker to the display. Guests will sign their names on the hearts and fill up the shadow box with lovely messages. Instead of an album that will be stashed away in a drawer, create a pretty piece of decor that can be displayed. This keepsake will be a great way to remember a special day.
You could adapt this idea for different types of occasions by changing the wood shapes. Use balloon shapes for birthday parties, and teddy bear shapes for baby showers! You can find a wood shape to make the perfect guest book keepsake for any event you host. Have fun crafting and creating!
