Make DIY foil cards without a laminator or heat! This is a sponsored post.

DIY Foil Cards Made Using Opal Vinyl

I just love the look of foiled cards. The metallic and iridescent shine is mesmerizing. I’ve made several cards and projects in the past using foil paper and my laminating machine, and the process is always a little stressful. It’s frustrating when you spend a lot of time cutting a design and running it through your machine only to find that one piece of the foil didn’t adhere. Then the whole project is ruined. Fortunately, there’s an easier way to create the look that is pretty much fool proof!

I used Opal Vinyl from StyleTechCraft for these cards. The sheen and color on this vinyl is amazing! I honestly had trouble picking the shades for these cards because the color changes as you move the paper around. The final effect is beautiful and professional looking. Here’s how I made the heart DIY foil cards. (Psssst…save the vinyl scraps! See what I did with mine at the end of the post.)

Supplies Used to make DIY Foil Cards:

  • StyleTechCraft Opal Vinyl (choose 5 different colors)
  • Geometric heart cut file
  • Card Blanks
  • StyleTechCraft Transfer Tape

I used my design studio to fill in the five colors in the heart. This way I knew which ones to cut from each color.

I created duplicate hearts and erased shapes so that each color was grouped together.

Cut the shapes from the various colors. I also cut the phrase “Thank You” from the fifth color of Opal Vinyl.

Trim off and save the excess pieces of vinyl to save for later. Weed the vinyl.

Use the clear transfer tape to pick up the first color of vinyl.

Repeat the process with each color until the heart is completed.

Add the phrase last to the transfer sheet.

Place the design on the card front and carefully remove the transfer tape.

This vinyl is too pretty to throw away! I saved my small scraps to make a fun birthday card. First I cut the colors into thin stripes to place on the card.

Then I adhered small pieces of vinyl to some chipboard. I used my die cutting machine to cut out the letters H, A, P, P, Y.

My Xyron sticker maker turned the opal vinyl letters into cute stickers that I could add to the card.

I love the way both of these turned out! Now I have an easy way to create DIY foil cards!

I created this project as a StyleTechCraft Design Team member.
