Throw a tiki themed backyard movie party. This is a sponsored post with affiliate links.
My kids are thrilled that summer break is here, and we decided to celebrate the end of the school year with a backyard movie party. I decided to go with Tiki themed decor for our shindig, and Oriental Trading was the perfect source to provide the decor I needed.
We bought the large screen and projector years ago, and it’s always fun to set up for birthday parties and special events. I decorated the screen with giant tiki head cutouts and some fun luau style fringe to give it a Polynesian feel. To keep the beach theme going, I placed blankets and pool floats on the grass for the kids to lounge on.
To help the projector blend in with the party decor, I put a bamboo pattern tablecloth on the table. I taped a large tiki head to one side of the table, and added tiki torches to complete the look. Add a long extension cord and my backyard tiki movie theater is ready for business.
While they waited for the movie to start the kids got to stay entertained with a few fun activities. The limbo stick was a big hit! The kids had a blast challenging themselves as they lowered the bar.
The plinko style game was also a lot of fun. This mini version is perfect for kids! They liked playing in pairs to see who got the highest score.
The tiki hut “concession stand” was stocked with popcorn and foaming punch. I filled the cute tiki face popcorn holders ahead of time so kids could grab a box.
The foaming punch is made by pouring Sprite over orange sherbet. The tiki tumblers are perfect for serving this refreshing drink!
When the concessions stand was empty, they kids decided to sit in it! It became the perfect place to enjoy their treats while we waited for the sun to set so the movie could begin. The tiki hut is made to go on a table top, but it’s also perfect for a kids sized hut. I added a large grass skirt to the back of the hut to fill in the background a bit.
My kids enjoyed this tiki themed set up so much that we will do it again and again this summer. It’s a fun way to relax outdoors, while pretending to be on a tropical island!
