Give your outdoor wood patio cart a fresh new look! Use paint and stencils to create a completely different style with this patio bar cart makeover.
Patio Bar Cart Makeover Supplies Used:
- Outdoor bar cart (purchased at the At Home Store)
- Vintage Effects Paint: Black & White
- Americana Decor Stencils — Mod Quatrefoil (12″ x 12″)
- Flat brush, 2 inches
- Stencil brush
- Paper towels

Step one: Clean the cart well to wipe off all the dust and dirt. If it’s a brand new cart then you can skip this step!

Step two: Paint the entire cart with Vintage Effect Wash in Black. This cart has a removable drink tray, so I took it off while painting so I could paint the bottom of the tray more easily. Let the paint dry completely.

Step three: Paint the sides of the tray and the wheels of the cart with the white Vintage Effect Wash.

Step four: Place the Mod Quatrefoil stencil on the trays. Use tape to hold the stencil in place. Tap the stencil brush in the paint, then dab the excess paint off on a paper towel. Dab the brush over the stencil. Repeat as needed until the design is complete. Let the paint dry completely.

Step five: Use a sanding tool to distress the edges of the bar cart. Wipe off the dust with a clean cloth.
Since we’re creating a vintage look, perfection isn’t necessary! This rustic look is perfect for an outdoor bar cart. All that’s left to do is fill it in with decor that matches your style, and enjoy your outdoor space! If you liked this project, check out my DIY cooler that fits on a bar cart!
