Learn three ways to create different finishes for your laser cut earrings! You likely have already tried two of these ideas, but have you ever used vinyl on wood to create earrings? I tested it out and I love the end result! I used a variety of vinyls from StyleTech Craft to make these gorgeous DIY earrings.

Wood Scroll Earrings
First up is the quickest and most natural looking method! I used Walnut Plywood to make these beautiful earrings. Simply open the SVG file in your cutting machine’s design program. Choose the design you want to use and make it the desired size. Then cut the wood using the best settings for your device. If you end up with a little char you can use a Magic Eraser to clean the wood.
Gold Laminate Earrings
I used heat transfer vinyl to make these super shiny earrings! If you are cutting with a diode laser, make sure you choose a HTV that is laser safe! This gold metallic HTV from StyleTech Craft is SAFE to use with your laser. First you iron the HTV onto the basswood. Then you cut the design from the wood. Finally, add your earring findings and you’re done! This method is faster than painting and the shiny metallic HTV is incredible!
Glitter Vinyl Earrings
I wanted to put some sparkle in the openings of the scroll earrings, and this was an easy way to do that. Open the desired design in your machine’s design program and create two versions of the earring design: one regular and one mirrored. This will make the front and back of the earring. Since it’s two pieces of wood I used 1/16 inch basswood and prepainted it. Then I cut the design.
After that I used my Silhouette cutting machine to cut the outline of the earrings from a sheet of acetate that was covered with transparent glitter vinyl. Finally, I glue the glitter piece between the two pieces of wood.
