I really enjoy crafting for Halloween, but I’m not a fan of gory decor. This cute witch is perfect for Halloween, without scaring the heck out of everyone. I used Martha Stewart Decoupage to turn an angel craft kit into a cheery witch!
If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I love to decoupage. I was excited to be given the opportunity to try out several Martha Stewart Decoupage products. What’s cool about this line is that the formulas are dishwasher safe, machine washable, non-yellowing, dry hard with no tack (yes!!), AND they can be used outdoors! The MS Decoupage products can be used on any surface: glass, paper, fabric, metal, and wood. The possibilities are limitless! Visit Michael’s to learn more and shop for the line of products.
Are you ready to make this cute, folk-art inspired witch? Here we go!
Supplies:
- Martha Stewart Decoupage Paper
- Martha Stewart Decoupage Medium – Glow in the Dark
- Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Paints in Gray Wolf (Satin), Adobo (Satin), Beetle Black (High Gloss), Orange Sorbet (Glitter), and Golden Beryl (Glitter)
- Angel Kit (purchased at Michael’s)
- Styrofoam Balls
- Dowel Rod
- Hot glue gun
- Embellishments
Step one: Use the decoupage medium to apply the candy themed paper to the largest cone.
Step two: Cut one of the smaller cones in half, and decoupage the word themed paper onto them. Glue the sleeves onto the dress.
Step three: Decoupage the spider web paper onto the dowel rod.
Step four: Paint the witch’s face gray, then paint over that with the green glitter paint.
Step five: Cut the small styrofoam ball in half and paint green. These will be the hands that are glued on. Cut the large styrofoam ball in half, glue it into the base that was on the angel, and paint it orange.
Step six: Paint the remaining cone and the halo black. Decoupage the bat onto the hat. Glue the pieces together.
Assemble the witch by inserting the dowel rod into the orange styrofoam base. Set the cone on the dowel rod, and begin embellishing your friendly witch!
I used a costume wig from Dollar Tree to make her hair. I then cut a small hole in the base of the hat so I could hot glue it on to her head.
I added rhinestone eyes and bling on a roll to accent her dress.
I like how my cute witch bobbles as if she is dancing. I think it would be fun to make a set in different sizes to display together. Yes, she does glow in the dark, but it’s hard for me to capture the effect in pictures. You’ll just have to try it yourself to see!
