I always give handmade cards to my family on their birthdays. It’s fun to create something special for someone who is dear to me! I don’t always have a lot of time to make cards, but there are certain tools that help speed up the process. I ditched liquid glue in my paper crafts a long time ago when I started using Xyron runners and Sticker Makers, two of my paper crafting staples. If you’ve visited my Facebook page then you know that I’ve recently had the honor of being invited to join the Xyron Design Team! I’m looking forward to sharing my Xyron projects with you, and I’m starting out with a fun gift bag and card set that I made for my husband’s birthday last week.
Supplies (affiliate links included):
- Xyron Create-a-Sticker 2.5-inch Sticker Maker
- Teresa Collins Mega Runner by Xyron
- Cardstock
- American Crafts Heidi Swapp Minc Reactive Foil, 10′, Red
- American Crafts 6 Piece Heidi Swapp Minc Toner Sheets
- American Crafts 3 Piece Heidi Swapp Minc Transfer Folder
- Silhouette CAMEO
- Laminator
Step one: Cut the Silhouette designs out. The files I used are “Vintage Gentleman Gift Bag” and “Hipster Journaling Cards“. I cut the smaller pieces from the toner sheets, and the larger pieces (hat, bag, and cards) from card stock.
Step two: Place the cut toner pieces in the transfer folder, and cut a piece of reactive foil to cover the paper.
Step three: I don’t have a Minc so I use my laminator. I just got this for Christmas so I’m still learning the process! I set it to “5 mm” and run it through with the transfer sheet one time. Then I remove the top transfer sheet and run it through one more time. Peel off the foil sheet and admire your foiled embellishments!
Step four: Use the Xyron 2.5 inch Sticker Maker to add adhesive to the backs of the foiled embellishments. Attach them to the journaling cards.
Step five: Use the Xyron Mega Runner to assemble the bag and journaling cards, as well as to attach the hat to the bag.
Step six: Tie a piece of ribbon through the holes in the bag to finish the project.
Each of my children wrote a birthday message on one of the cards, and then we placed them all inside the dapper gift bag. This way instead of one card my husband can enjoy several cards, each with a special message!
These are awesome, Morena! I need to try foil in my Xyron!
Thank you!
