If you haven’t seen Captain Marvel yet and plan to see it, save this post for later! Otherwise, keep reading to learn how to make your own funny flerken device holder. This one even walks and talks!
My family loved the new Captain Marvel film, but one character really won our hearts. Goose the cat became a very unexpected hero in the film. My kids and I laughed about how cool it would be to have a flerken, and I knew I wanted to make one. I couldn’t believe my good luck when I found this octopus toy at Goodwill San Antonio. The head was removeable, making it perfect for this project. A week later I found the Fur Real Pet cat, also at Goodwill, and when I put batteries in it I was delighted that it worked. I had everything I needed for my Flerken DIY.
Supplies Used to make a Flerken DIY device holder:
- Plastic toy octopus (remove or cut off the head)
- Toy cat
- Fabric Creations Tangerine Soft Fabric Paint
- Fan brush
- Fishing line or strong thread
I wanted my flerken to be an orange cat like Goose in the film, so I used fabric paint to change the color. I used a fan brush to create a stripe-like effect on the fur.
After the paint was completely dry I used an old brush to break up any clumps of paint and make the fur soft again.
Detach the head from the octopus. I placed fishing line through a needle and knotted the end of the string around the base of the tentacles. I then stitched the string through the fur on the cat’s mouth repeatedly to hold the tentacles in place.
My little flerken makes a great device holder! Be sure to check out my Facebook page where I’ll be posting short clips of it walking around and meowing.
