What can I make with old VHS tapes? Learn a few easy to make projects, complete with a free printable label that you can customize! This is a sponsored post.
Earth Day is coming up, and while I always love to craft with recycled items, this celebration is a great time to highlight all the ways we can upcycle unwanted items. One thing I always see in excess at thrift stores and garage sales is VHS tapes. Hardly any of us own VCRs anymore, so these large tapes just wind up collecting dust.
Fortunately their size and shape make them PERFECT for building with! To make this project even more unique, I created my own labels to decorate the VHS tapes with. This way I can customize each one for the event or recipient! The easy to use printable labels from OnlineLabels.com were just the right size for VHS tapes. You can use the template on their site to customize your labels with any name.

To make the VHS light:
- Use a screwdriver to open the case, and remove the film from the reels.
- Cover the reels with transparent vinyl. I used blue and yellow vinyl by StyleTechCraft.
- Wrap the reels with the fairy lights.
- Screw the case back together.
- Print the sticker using OnlineLabels.com paper, and peel and stick it on the case.
To make the VHS Storage Box:
- Take 5 VHS tapes and arrange them as desired.
- Use clear silicone glue to attach the tapes together. Let them dry completely.
- Print the sticker using OnlineLabels.com paper, and peel and stick it on the case.
The storage box can be used in lots of ways. Fill them with faux flowers or succulents to make a fun planter. I like to use mine to hold remote controls, so I can find them easily. Have fun crafting and creating with recycled items!
