Create the cutest snowy sled ornament DIY using vinyl and an unfinished wood sled from the dollar store! Avoid the cold and stay warm and cozy crafting inside. These beautiful ornaments are a great crafternoon project. All you need is a little paint and vinyl with a cute design to turn a plain wood piece into something that sparkles and shines.
Sled Ornament DIY Supplies
- Baby It’s Cold Outside SVG File
- Wood Sled (from Dollar Tree)
- Silver Spray Paint
- Vinyl in Royal Blue, Sky Blue, and Silver (I used Style Tech Craft’s Luster vinyl)
- Embellishments (ribbon, bells, etc.)
Remove the twine from the wood sled and spray paint it silver. Set it aside to dry and add the twine back after it has dried.
I used the separated SVG so that I could cut the elements from different colors. I cut the text from the darkest blue vinyl, and then I cut the snowflake parts from the lighter blue and silver vinyl sheets.
These elements have lots of tiny details, and I’ve found that it can be easier to reverse weed vinyl so that you don’t damage the design or lose lots of little pieces. Reverse weeding is when you apply the transfer tape to the cut vinyl and weed the design from the sticky side. This way the vinyl you want will stay on the transfer tape while you remove the parts you don’t want.
Add the text to the sled first.
I layered the snowflakes first and then added them to the sled.
Once the design was in place I embellished the sled top by tying on a few items like some greenery, a tulle bow, a small ornament and a bell.
I love how the look of the ornament helps capture the mood of the saying. Baby it’s cold outside! Have fun crafting and creating to create your own unique DIY Christmas ornament!
