Welcome to this fun and easy DIY tutorial on how to make a Taco Tunnel for your pet! I’ll guide you through the steps to create a cozy and playful tunnel that your furry friend will love. Perfect for guinea pigs, cats, and other small pets, this taco-shaped hideout is sure to become their new favorite spot.
DIY Taco Tunnel Supplies List
- Off-White Cotton Fabric
- Felt Fabric in brown, red, green, and yellow
- Low Loft Poly-Fil Batting
- Stiffen Interfacing
- Velcro
- Fabric Glue
- Brown Multisurface Paint
- Sewing Machine
Let’s get started and make playtime even more exciting for your pet!
Steps for making your own pet taco tunnel:
- Cut two pieces of the off-white fabric out using the pattern below.
- Sponge circles of brown paint onto one side of the fabric to create the tortilla effect.
- Sew velcro strips onto the other piece of fabric.
- Sew the batting and two pieces of fabric together, leaving an opening on one side.
- Slide a semi circle of Stiffen Interfacing into each side of the taco tunnel. Stiffen Interfacing is rigid like cardboard while also being washable! It will provide structure for your project but still make it easy to wash.
- Sew a line to hold the semicircles in place (see pattern for guide).
- Place the rectangle of Stiffen Interfacing in the middle of the piece. Clip and sew the opening shut.
- Cut semicircles from the brown, red, and green felt fabric. Cut rectangles from the yellow felt. Arrange them and use fabric glue to keep them together. Stitch across to hold the “toppings” in place and add the velcro strips to both sides.
- Use the velcro to hold the taco toppings in place and to create the triangle shape.
- Watch your pet enjoy their new cozy hideout!
My guinea pigs absolutely love their new taco tunnel, and it looks so cute in their enclosure! You could adjust the size and scale of this project to make it fit a cat or small dog. It’s always fun to make something useful AND cute that your pets can enjoy!
