This fun lightning bug wall art actually LIGHTS UP! How fun is that? I used several of my favorite crafting tools to create a unique piece of wall decor that’s whimsical and fun to look at. I feel like I captured a fun summer memory with this piece. Here’s how you can make your own wall decor that lights up!
Supplies Used:
- Wood Art Panel 8″ x 10″
- Oly*Fun Fabric by Fairfield World: Twilight, Lemon Drop, Snow, Kiwi, Slate, Clover
- Xyron 624632 Creative Station, 9″ with 5″ Option
- Silhouette Cameo
- Chibitronics Chibi Lights Circuit Stickers STEM Starter Kit
Download the free cut file HERE.
Step one: Cut the background with the holes from the Twilight Fabric. Cut the Mason Jar twice, once from the Snow and once from the Slate Oly-Fun fabric. Then cut the leaves and flowers from the Lemon Drop, Kiwi, and Clover fabrics. Use the thin fabric setting on your Cameo and a Silhouette fabric cutting blade for best results.
Step two: Place the Twilight blue background fabric and mark where the holes are on the wood panel.
Step three: Follow the instructions in the Chibitronics manual to set the lights. I used the enclosed copper tape to “link” the circles I had marked on the wood. I made two paths, one for the lights on the left side of the panel and one on the right side. Once the copper lines are in place, add the light stickers. They come with adhesive on the back so you just have to stick them on! Finally, place the batteries on the back of the panel and test to make sure your lights are working.
PS….see more fun Chibitronics craft ideas in their blog hop HERE.
Step four: Run all of the cut fabric pieces through the Creative Station. I am using the 9 inch permanent adhesive cartridge which is perfect for fabric. It’s also wide enough that I can fit the entire back panel through the Creative Station, which basically turns all of my cut fabric pieces into big stickers.
Step five: Place the background piece on the wood panel, and fold the edges over the panel. Then add the greenery. Place the white inside of the jar over the greenery and background. Finally, attach the outline and lid of the mason jar.
My two youngest kids just LOVE this fun piece of wall decor that lights up, and they were both fighting to have it in their room. Fortunately, I can just cut a second one so they can each have their own. Have fun crafting and creating lightning bug wall art that really lights up!
