Step one: Clean and wipe all the dust off the headboard. Fill holes with wood filler if needed.
Step two: Paint the entire headboard with Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge. Let each application dry before applying another layer of paint. I needed three applications to completely cover the dark wood.
Step three: Accent parts of the headboard with a lighter color. First, paint the desired area with a single application of Americana Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint in Cottonball.
Step four: Paint over the Cottonball paint with multiple applications of Dazzling Metallics in White Pearl to achieve the desired finish.
Step five: Finish the entire headboard with Americana Soft Touch Varnish. Use the round waxing brush to apply the varnish, then polish it with a soft cloth.
Step six: Drill holes where the knobs will go, and screw the knobs into place.
My kids really love this piece! I lean it against the wall over my fireplace, and the kids can see and touch their stockings safely. It makes a great decorative piece for the room, too.
