Twist, bend, paint, and embellish wire to create a whimsical piece of wire wall art home decor that would be perfect for Valentine’s day!
This fun piece of wire wall art reminds me of graffiti, but it’s so much easier to clean up! Twist, bend, paint, and embellish wire to create a whimsical piece of home decor that would be perfect for Valentine’s day! I love that you can make it look like your handwriting and share a sweet message on your wall.
I shared this project on the Blitsy blog last year, which is where the supplies listed below come from!
Supplies to make wire wall art:
- Wire
- Ranger Vintaj Patina – Onyx
- Shrink Plastic
- Momenta Stamp and Die Set – Mason Jars
- Heart shaped rhinestone
- Free printable
- Jewelry Pliers
Step one: Print out the free printable to use as a guide for your wire work. You will tape the wire in place on this template as you work.
Step two: Use pliers to make a loop at the beginning of the wire. Tape the loop near the beginning of the letter “l” and tape it in place. Follow the lines on the paper to form the letters, and tape the wire in place as you go. You can use your hands or the pliers to bend the wire. Once you reach the “e” at the end, leave an additional 6 inches of wire, and use the pliers to make a loop at that end, also.
Step three: Paint the wire black using the onyx patina. I used the applicator tip on the bottle to apply the patina, but you can also use a brush.
Step four: Die cut the mason jar from the shrink plastic. Poke a small hole at the top of the jar so you can hang the jar later.
Step five: Stamp the mason jar on the shrink plastic. Use a quick drying ink. Don’t worry about slight smears…those will disappear when the plastic shrinks!
Step six: Glue a small heart shaped rhinestone into the center of the tiny mason jar. Cut a 12″ piece of craft wire, and twist one end through the mini mason jar. Loop the other end around the tail of the wire.
The small loops at the beginning and end of the word “love” are for nails. The wire is light weight enough, however, that you could even attach it to the wall with sticky tack, like I did here. Have fun crafting and creating wire word art for your home!
