Transform a thrift store find into a unique soccer bed. This is a sponsored post with Goodwill San Antonio.
My son is crazy about soccer, so I thought it would be fun to make a soccer themed bed for his room. I found a very sturdy solid wood headboard and footboard at Goodwill San Antonio. With some paint and fabric I gave this bed a complete makeover!
Supplies Used for this Bed Makeover Project:
- Headboard and footboard
- Chalky Finish Paint in Everlasting and Carbon
- Soft touch Varnish
- Oly-Fun fabric in Jet black and Snow white
- Modeling paste
- Decoupage
- Batting
- Staple gun
- Painters tape
- Soccer hexagon template
Step one: Remove the fabric panels from the bed by unscrewing them. Remove the fabric.
Step two: Wipe all the dust off the furniture. Fill in unwanted design elements with modeling paste and let it dry. Sand the dried paste smooth.
Step three: Paint the headboard and footboard with Carbon Chalky Finish paint. Let the first application dry and then add a second layer of paint.
Step four: Tape around the end posts and center of the pieces. Paint with Everlasting Chalky Finish Paint.
Step five: Cut a 2 inch hexagon from the fabric to use as a template. Trace the hexagon onto the ball posts in pencil. Fill in the design with Carbon Chalky Finish Paint.
Step six: Brush Soft Touch Varnish over the painted surfaces and let it dry.
Step seven: Use the soccer pattern template to cut the black Oly-Fun fabric. I imported the file and used my cutting machine to cut the fabric, but you could also trace it onto the fabric and cut it.
Step eight: Arrange the design as desired on the white fabric. Use Decoupage to adhere the black fabric to the white fabric. Seal it With another application of Decoupage.
Step nine: Cover the wood panel with batting, and then place the decoupaged fabric over it. Use a staple gun to attach the fabric to the panel, then screw the panel back onto the bed.
This soccer bed project took awhile, but it was well worth the effort!
Such a cool bed, makes me want to be a kid again!
