This Mad Hatter wig DIY is the perfect accessory for this colorful costume from Oriental Trading Company. This is a sponsored post with Fairfield World.
Halloween is my favorite season to craft for! I always make at least one costume every year. (To see all my costume tutorials, click HERE.) I love to make my own accessories, and one of my favorite costume accessories every is this Thing 1 and 2 Wig. Since they project was so successful, I decided to try a quick version of it and make a hair band for this Mad Hatter costume. I LOVE the way it turned out, and it was so quick (less than 30 minutes!) to make!
Supplies for the Mad Hatter Wig:
- Poly-Fil Royal Silk Fiber Fill
- Fold over elastic
- Oly-Fun scrap pieces in white
- Mad Hatter Costume
- Hot glue gun
- Lots and lots of glue sticks
Step one: Cut a piece of white elastic so it fits around your head comfortably.
Step two: Grab small tufts of Royal Silk and hot glue them to the elastic. Leave the ends of the elastic uncovered…these will become the part that goes over your forehead.
Step three: Glue strips of white Oly-Fun over the Royal Silk. Don’t be afraid to use lots of hot glue! This will help hold all the clumps together.
Step four: Hot glue more Royal Silk over the Oly Fun strips. Continue hot gluing the fluffy “hair” on until the wig is nice and full. Let the glue cool.
Step five: Glue the ends of the elastic together to make a loop.
Give the wig a few shakes to see what will fall off. A few small pieces may fall. If you are losing big sections, then you need more hot glue!
Slip the elastic around your head like a sweatband. The oversized hat will cover the elastic, and all you will see are the big tufts of crazy “hair” poking out from under the hat’s brim.
I love how fluffy and crazy looking this wig is! It’s perfect for the Mad Hatter. Be sure to check out my equally wacky and fun tutorial for Alice trapped in rabbit’s house! For more fun costume ideas, check out my other tutorials here.
