Make recycled decorative jars to get organized or to use as gifts.

Recycled Decorative Jars for Organizing and Gift Giving

I find that I do lots of little gift giving this time of year:  teacher appreciation, mother’s day, baby and wedding shower party favors, etc.  Here are some ideas for ways to mass produce cute jars for gift giving or for organization. I recycled pretty glass containers to make this recycled decorative jars. Make them in bulk so you always have a quick container on hand next time you need one.

Supplies used to make Decorative Jars:

  • Bird figures from Dollar Tree
  • E-6000 Glue
  • Spray Paint in various colors
  • Metallic Glaze, staining medium and/or glitter paint
  • Glass jars with lids
Step one:  Clean the jars and remove the labels.
Step two:  Use E-6000 to glue the bird to the lid.  Add flower cabochons if wanted.
Step three:  Paint the birds and lids.  I used spray paint to speed things up!
Step four:  Add depth to the figures.  Here are three different ideas you can try.
Metallic glaze:  Brush it on and wipe back gently with a dry cloth. I used Venetian Gold Metallic Glaze by DecoArt.
DIY Stain:  Mix any color paint with a stain medium to make your own stain.  Brush on and wipe back with a dry cloth. This is a stain medium tinted with brown acrylic paint.

Glitter paint:  Paint it over the spray paint with glitter paint for a fun, shimmery finish.

All that’s left to do is fill the jars to have a pretty, handmade gift.  Fill the jars with mints, candy, notes, etc.  These make pretty party favors, or are great for when you need to give multiples of something, like to teachers or co-workers.  These recycled decorative jars are also pretty on a desk to help organize various craft of office supplies. Have fun crafting and creating!
