Painted ice cream bowl you can make yourself. Yay!
Every time I have taught a group how to paint on glass they’re amazed to learn how easy it is! I’ve even done this activity at my daughter’s birthday parties. Kids love to paint their bowls and then take them home to enjoy all summer. Keep reading to learn how you can make your own painted ice cream bowl.
Painted Ice Cream Bowl Supplies
- Americana Gloss Enamels — Indian Turquoise
- DecoArt Glass Paint Marker — Black
- Americana Gloss Enamels — Citron Green
- Glass ice cream bowl (found at Dollar Tree)
- Foam pouncers
Wipe the glass clean to remove dirt and oil. (Rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipes are great for this! Otherwise soap & water will do.)
Dab a foam pouncer in the paint. Dab the pouncer on a plate to distribute the paint around the foam and to remove excess paint. Tap the pouncer onto the glass to make a circle.
Repeat making circles on the glass using different sized pouncers and alternating the paint colors. Let the paint dry completely.
Use the glass paint marker to draw the star shapes over the circles. Start by making a large plus sign over the circle, then draw a smaller X on top of it. Make circles on the end of each line.
Follow the instructions on the bottle to set the paint. First let it cure for 4 days, then place the glass container on a metal sheet in a cool oven. Set the oven to 325 degrees and bake the glass for 30 minutes. Turn the heat off and open the oven door slightly. Let the glass cool completely in the oven before taking it out.
Have fun crafting & creating your own painted ice cream bowl this summer!
