I love projects that are quick and inexpensive to make, but that still have that “wow” factor. This is one of them: making your own decorative cork bottle stopper!
This project was originally posted at Dollar Store Crafts. You’ll find me there every Tuesday. Come visit!
These toppers would make adorable hostess gifts or party favors. You could make them in so many themes and styles. I used a pack of mini foam gourds from the Dollar Tree to make my fall themed wine stopper. Here’s how:
Supplies:
- Mini Foam Gourds
- Cork
- Threaded bolt (or a screw)
- Glue
1. Start by making a hole in your cork. (I used a nail and hammer for this.)
2. Screw the threaded bolt into the cork, leaving part of the bolt exposed.
3. Next, gently screw the foam gourd onto the threaded bolt. If the gourd (like my pumpkin) won’t sit flush, cut off some of the base.
4. Remove the gourd. Put glue (I used E-6000) in the hole you just made, and then place it back on the bolt.
That’s it! Wasn’t that easy, and inexpensive, too? If you can’t find decorative foam shapes you like, try decorative knobs! I used one that I found on clearance for $1.48 at World Market. The cool thing with knobs is that they already have the threaded bolt attached, so all you have to do is insert it into the cork.
Don’t worry if you don’t drink wine. They make adorable container toppers too!
