When I saw these adorable printed burlap ornaments in a catalog I knew I had to make my own. You can easily make several ornaments in one sitting, and they would make beautiful gifts that would be cherished for many Christmases to come!

Supplies:
- Burlap Fabric
- Paint
- Alphabet Stamps
- White Hemp Cord
Step one: Use different sized alphabet stamps to spell the word “joy”. Sponge the stamp with white craft paint, and press it onto the burlap fabric. Repeat as desired.
Step two: Make a heart template out of cardstock. Trace it onto the burlap and cut out two hearts.
Step three: Burlap frays VERY easily when you sew it, so I tried two different methods for joining my two hearts. For my first ornament, I backstitched around the heart template. Before I closed the heart, I stuffed it with burlap scraps. After I had stitched around the entire heart, I cut it out.
For my second ornament, I cut out two hearts, then glued the edges together with fabric glue. This way worked well, the only drawback was it took longer to complete because I had to wait for the glue to dry.
Step three: Use the hemp cord to blanket stitch around the edge of the ornament. When you get to the top, make a loop with the cord so you can hang the ornament.
I think this ornament is so pretty. You could use different stamps to spell different words, or even customize it with a name. What a fun gift to give or receive!
