Create the cutest clay words to decorate wrapped presents with!
These fun clay word tags are a cute way to dress up your presents for holiday gift giving! You can make your tag in any color you want to match your wrapping paper, and spell any name or word you want. This is an easy (and addictive) simple gift wrap idea to make.

Clay Words Supplies:
Step one: Cut an equal piece of clay from two different colors. I used red and white clay.
Step two: Roll each piece into a thin strand of clay.
NOTE! If you are using red and white like I did, be aware that the red will stain your surface and your hands. It’s best to roll the white clay first, and roll brightly colored clays second, to avoid staining the white clay. Yes, I learned this the hard way. That’s how I roll.
Step three: Set each strand side by side, and begin twisting them together slowly. You can leave them twisted (as I did with “joy”) or gently press the twists together (like I did with “noel”). Each creates a slightly different look, one with a tighter coil and the other with wider bands of color.
Step four: Loop the strands to spell the desired clay words. I just manipulated the clay till I liked the way it looked. Once I was happy with it, I pressed the “joints” together slightly so the letters would not come apart.
Step five: Bake the clay as instructed on the package. I have a separate cookie sheet that I *only* use for clay. It’s not a good idea to bake the clay on a surface that food will be on.
I kept my packaging simple to showcase the message written in clay. First I wrapped my gifts in kraft paper. Then I looped a bit of baker’s twine onto the first and last letters, and tied the twine in the back. You gift recipient can reuse your handmade packaging as a ornament! Yay! Have fun crafting and creating your gift tags with clay!
