Earth Day is coming up soon, so I’ll be sharing some ideas for ways to turn “trash” into something useful. I just love to craft with thrifted and recycled items, so “earth day” happens almost everyday for me. In the past I’ve turned kitchen whisks into garden art and made my own watering pails for pennies. With this project, I’m turning a broken clock into a fun retro inspired accessory!
I’ve had this idea for a for a long time, and I’m so excited to finally make what I’ve been dreaming of. I just adore my new handbag! Made with a recycled old clock from Goodwill and wood purse box from Consumer Crafts, this retro bag is the perfect accessory for me. I hope you like it as much as I do!
Supplies:
- Unfinished Oval Purse Box
- Alarm Clock
- Spray Paint
- Krylon Triple Thick Glaze Spray
Step one: Take apart the alarm clock. Save the bells on top, the legs, and the arms. Save the rest for a different project on another day.
Step two: Spray paint the box and the clock pieces. I used Seaglass from Krylon.
Step three: Drill holes to screw the clock pieces into the wood box. My husband helped me with this part!
Step four: Seal the project with the glaze spray if you want a high gloss finish.
I’m going to finish off the inside with fun retro print fabric and Mod Podge. If you don’t want to use it as a purse it would make decorative craft room storage. You could also turn it into a cute jewelry box. And the rest of the clock? My daughter and I have a fun idea for what to do with the frame. Stay tuned!
