xTool D1 Guide for Beginners

Are you a new laser owner, or thinking about getting one? This xTool D1 guide for beginners will help you get started! 

My husband gave me an xTool D1Pro 10W for my birthday, but I was so intimidated by it that I didn’t set it up for 9 months! Safety Features You Need to Add On

My D1 came with the machine and no add ons. You could use it that way, but to make it safer you really should add a vented enclosure and a honeycomb. The enclosure will protect you from the laser as well as smoke fumes, and a vent will help get those fumes away. A honeycomb helps raise whatever you are lasering off the metal base to reduce charring. The added space helps with air flow and reduces the amount of burn on your projects. Before I used my laser for the first time I purchased an xTool enclosure, a honeycomb, and a window kit so that I could safely use my laser cutter indoors.

Focus the Laser

The xTool D1 doesn’t have an autofocus feature. You will need to focus the laser every time you use it. It gets faster with practice! Watch the video starting here to see how to focus the laser with the tools that are on the laser head.

Cleaning Your xTool

It’s important to keep your laser clean so it will work correctly. Use rubbing alcohol, q-tips, and a soft cloth to remove build up from the laser.
