It feels wrong to say a Christmas ornament is “sexy”, but that’s what this one is.  No elves, snow, or bright colors on this ornament.  Just elegantly painted glass in a pattern that’s very trendy right now.

The lovely folks at DecoArt were kind enough to invite me to participate in their 12 Days of Christmas event.  I jumped at the chance to use their glass paint line to create my own ornaments.  As I perused their online catalog, I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw their safari glass stencil.  I HAD to have it. I love animal print, and I’m seeing it everywhere this winter (yay!!)  This ornament is surprisingly easy to make!

Supplies Needed:
Glass Ornament
Americana Reusable Stick on Stencil:  Safari
Americana Gloss Enamels:  Dark Chocolate and Metallic Glorious Gold
Americana Opaque Glass Writer:  Black

To make your own animal print ornament:

1.  Use the stencil, which is made for glass and is adhesive, with the brown paint to apply the pattern all over.  I used a foam pouncer to dab the color onto the stencil.  I did opposite sides of the ornament and let them dry overnight.  Then I finished the rest of the ornament.

2.  Paint the interior of the ornament gold.  I used an angled brush to reach the sides and top.

3.  Use the black paint writer to outline the pattern.  Don’t worry about mistakes!  The beauty of animal print is that it is natural and imperfect.

Come back next week to see how I made a zebra print ornament!!
