I have a TON of above the cabinet space to fill in my home, but not much of a budget to decorate with. I love decorative ceramic vases and jars, but even on sale, they can get pricey. So, in my usual DIY fashion, I set out to find a way to make my own!
This post first appeared at Dollar Store Crafts, where you can find me with a new tutorial every Tuesday.
Supplies Used:
- Wine bottles
- DecoArt Stucco Texture Paste
- Stencil
- Paint
Step one: Use a palette knife to spread a thin layer of the paste over the jar. Let it dry. If there are rough or uneven edges, sand the surface lightly before moving to step two.
Step two: Hold a stencil on the bottle. Use a palette knife to smooth a thin layer of paste over the stencil. Remove the stencil. Repeat until you have the desired design. Let the paste dry.
Step four: Paint the entire bottle. I used a deep turquoise crafter’s paint.
My first bottle is done! I can’t wait to get started on the next one. I’ve been saving bottles and jars for a while, and now I have a use for them. This would be a beautiful way to decorate a plain glass vase, too. Have fun crafting and creating faux ceramic decor!
