Taking Time Out to Craft

Ice Cream Dish Pin Cushion made with Cuddle Fabric

Jan 27, 2015 by Morena 8 Comments

Have you tried Cuddle fabric before?  This wonderfully plush textile from Shannon Fabrics is delightful to craft and sew with.  The fun colors and super soft texture just make me happy.  The design team at Fairfield World is participating in a fun challenge and giveaway.  Keep reading to learn how to make my ice cream pin cushion and how to win some Cuddle fabric for yourself!

Supplies:

  • Cuddle Cakes- Very Vibrant Solid
  • Ice Cream Dish
  • Fairfield Poly-Fil Premium Polyester Fiber
  • Ric Rac and fabric embellishments
  • Glue gun

To learn how to make the ice cream bowl, visit THIS tutorial on my site.

Step one:  Trace the bowl onto the cuddle fabric to cut two circles.  Face the fabric together and pin the ric rac in place.  Sew around the edge.

Step two:  Flip the circle inside out and stuff with Poly-Fil until firm.  Sew the opening shut.

Continue this process, making each circle a little bit smaller than the one before.  I only used ric rac on one “scoop”.
Step three:  Glue the largest “scoop” into the ice cream bowl.  Glue or sew the other scoops on top.
Step four:  Embellish the “ice cream” as desired.  I used Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Permanent Fabric Adhesive to adhere some fabric stars to look like sprinkles.

To learn how to win your own Cuddle Fabric from Shannon Fabrics, as well as some great prizes from Fairfield World, visit THIS post to enter.

With it’s bright colors and whimsical tilt, my pin cushion reminds me of something from a Dr. Seuss book!  It’s a fun item to have on my desk, and a nifty place to keep my pins.  This could also make a fun play item for a child’s kitchen.  Use a plastic bowl instead of glass and make fun pretend ice cream for little ones to play with.  I hope I’ve inspired you to craft and create something today!
