Make an elegant holiday bow using the Bowdabra bow making tool.
I drew my inspiration for this holiday bow from the man himself, Santa Claus! A bright red suit, lined with fur, and finished off with black accents….what could be more Christmas like? The Bowdabra bow making tool makes this project so easy to complete. You’ll be able to make several of these elegant holiday bows in one crafternoon.
Supplies Used to make the Elegant Holiday Bow:
- Tulle Netting – Black
- White Craft Fur
- Black Ribbon
- Poly Satin Ribbon – Red
- Darice Bling on a Roll
- Bowdabra Bow Making Tool – Large
- Bowdabra Bow Wire
Step one: Cut a ten inch piece of silver Bowdabra Bow Wire in silver and place it on the Bowdabra tool, tucking the ends of the string under the base.
Step two: Place the end of the black tulle in the Bowdabra. Extend the tulle about ten inches, fold it, and push the free end of the tulle in the center of the Bowdabra. Repeat on the other side. Continue until you have three loops of tulle on each side of the Bowdabra.
Step three: Cut three 8 inch lengths of black ribbon. Place one piece of ribbon on the Bowdabra and pull it down towards you. Place the second piece of ribbon in the Bowdabra and push it away from you. Place the third piece of black ribbon straight across the center, as pictured.
Step four: Cut two inch wide strips of faux fur that are 7 inches long. You’ll need three of these faux fur strips. Place them the same way you placed the black ribbon in step three.
Step five: Place the end of the red ribbon in the Bowdabra. Fold the ribbon at the edge of the Bowdabra, and loop the ribbon before you press the twisted ribbon into the center of the Bowdabra. The ribbon is satin on one side and flat on the other, so we will be twisting it each time we cross the center of the Bowdabra so that the satin side of the ribbon shows. Continue folding and looping the ribbon until you have ten loops on each side of the Bowdabra tool. When you are done, cut a piece of satin ribbon to make the tail of the bow.
Step six: Use the tool that comes with the Bowdabra to press all the layers together. Use the silver string from step one to tightly tie the layers together. Remove the bow from the Bowdabra.
Step seven: Flip the bow over and fluff the tulle in the back. Return to the front of the bow and continue fluffing and shaping the bow.
Step eight: Cut strips of the Bling on a Roll to fit the black ribbon. Use a hot glue gun to attach the bling to the ribbon.
This elegant holiday bow makes a gorgeous present topper! It would also look beautiful on a wreath, or decorating a mantle.
