Make a galaxy dress DIY using a thrift store dress from Goodwill San Antonio with glitter fabric paints. This is a sponsored post.
I’ve wanted a galaxy inspired dress for a while, so I decided just to try to make one myself. I used a black cotton dress I found at Goodwill San Antonio to create this look, and I love the way it turned out!
I received a giant box of LaurDIY fabric paint and other goodies from Plaid Crafts and I knew these would be perfect for creating a galaxy dress DIY. The stencils, glitter fabric paint, iron on patches, and space themed pin were all perfect for this project.
Supplies used to make this Galaxy Dress DIY:
- Black cotton dress from Goodwill
- Bleach
- Fabric paint and glitter fabric paint
- Sponges
Place the dress in the tub and splatter bleach on it. I put bleach in a small cup so I could pour and drip it randomly on the dress. Let it dry.
Rinse the dress and dry it. Now we have a lighter area to paint the galaxy onto the black space.
Start with purple fabric paint. Sponge it randomly onto the dress.
As the paint was absorbed I added more purple paint.
Repeat the process with blue paint.
Finish with yellow fabric paint.
Now take the LaurDIY Galaxy fabric paint in purple glitter and repeat the process. Just sponge the paint onto the fabric randomly.
Add the blue and gold glitter paint to the fabric. I added it to the black parts of the dress, too.
I used the LaurDIY star stencil to add glittering stars to the top of the dress.
The line comes with a rubber scraper type tool get the glitter into the stencil.
I was really happy and impressed that they looked like glittering stars! I repeated this process to cover the top.
After the paint is dry, iron the glitter paint to set it. I also ironed on two space themed patches and added a space pin, all from the LaurDIY collection. The dress pairs nicely with this fun Betsey Johnson bag I also found at Goodwill San Antonio!
I had fun making this galaxy dress DIY, and I love the bright colors and sparkle! Now I have something to wear with the furry boots I made several years ago! Have fun crafting and creating.
