Surely you’ve heard the story of the lady drinking wine from a Pringles can while riding a cart in a Walmart parking lot? If not, gather ’round to hear this tale.
Police in Wichita Falls, Texas, recently reported that they had been called to a local Walmart store regarding a woman who was “disturbing the peace”. Apparently, she had been driving an electric shopping card around the parking lot for hours while drinking wine from a Pringles can.
This story immediately made me think two things:
- Can you really use a Pringles can as a cup?
- Why didn’t I think of this?
I pride myself on being resourceful and recycling when I can, and while I have used Pringles cans in my projects (like this Cardinal cookie exchange container), it had never occurred to me to drink from one. So, of course, I had to try it.
I added one element to my Pringles can cup: a lid with a straw. Wine is precious, and I don’t want to risk spilling any of it, especially if I’m steering an electric cart around the Walmart parking lot. Or chasing my kids down the street. So my version is a Pringle’s can sippy cup. It’s ridiculously simple to make.
First, eat all the chips from the Pringles can. Or dump them into a container for later. You choose.
Rinse the container. Pringles are flavored with some powdery dust that I don’t think will taste good in wine. So I rinsed my container.
Replace the lid on the container and use a sharp object to poke a hole in the lid. Helpfully, the Pringles can lid has a dot in the center, making it easy to find the exact middle of the top.
Take a stick from a mylar party balloon. You know, the little shaped ones that are by the register at Walmart? Remove the balloon and keep the stick. You probably should wash it before you drink from it. If the stick is too long (mine was) just bend it and it will snap. Put the broken end in the container.
Fill your Pringles can sippy cup with your beverage of choice and enjoy! Move over mason jars…there’s a new DIY drink cup in town!
