Make a gather sign to create pretty fall decor for your home or office. This is an easy to make project!

Gather sign fall decor tutorial

One of my favorite ways to decorate for fall is to contrast matte colors with metallics. I like to pair a matte white background with a beautiful shimmering autumnal color like copper or bronze. I used some base pieces from a crafts store with chalk paint and Extreme Sheen paint to make this pretty piece of fall decor. It’s perfect for mantle decorating or wall art!

Gather Sign Project Supplies List

  • Wood Pallet Sign
  • Wood Unfinished Letters
  • Wood Glue
  • DecoArt White Chalk Paint
  • DecoArt Extreme Sheen Bronze
  • Sanding Tool

Remove the stickers from the backs of the letters.  Paint each of the unfinished wood letters with Extreme Sheen in Bronze.  Let the first application dry, then add a second layer of metallic paint.  Let the paint dry completely.

Use painter’s tape to cover the metal strips on the wood piece.

Paint the wood sign with Chalky Finish paint.  Apply just  one layer of paint.  Let the paint dry.

Remove the painter’s tape from the metal.  Very lightly sand the painted wood to distress it slightly.  Wipe the dust off the board.

Arrange the letters on the board, and then use the wood glue to attach the letters to the painted sign.

Add a hanger to the back if you want to use this as a piece of wall art. I placed mine on my mantle with some luminary style pumpkins to create an autumn focal point for my living room. This piece is also perfect for Thanksgiving decorating!
