Making slime is a great boredom buster! I use three basic ingredients to create a project that keeps my kids busy for hours. (This post first appeared at Dollar Store Crafts, where you can find me every Tuesday!) I modeled my slime after one of my kids' favorite monsters, Bob from the movie "Monsters Vs. Aliens". This one eyed blob would make a fun party craft, or even a unique Halloween party favor. Supplies: Elmer's White School Glue Tempera Paint Liquid Starch … [Read more...]

Make A Glittery Serving Tray for Fall
Dollar Tree has started stocking decorative pieces for fall, and it's pretty easy to "take them up a notch" so they look more high end. I liked the color and shape of these leaf bowls, so I glammed them up with glitter paint to make a pretty serving tray! Supplies: Leaf bowl Glamour Dust Paint Acorns Paint Step one: Paint the back of the bowl with the Glamour Dust paint. Step two: After the paint dries, repeat as needed. I applied three applications to get the finish I … [Read more...]
How I Brightened My Teeth at Home with Smile Brilliant
I get a lot of compliments on my smile, and it means a lot to me. For most of my childhood, I had ugly teeth, and I developed the habit of hiding my smile behind my hands. As my permanent teeth came in, I made sure to take care of them. I am still sensitive about the appearance of my teeth, but my recent experience with Smile Brilliant just gives me even more reason to smile big. As a child, I was a regular at the dentist's office. I had soft enamel (and likely a sweet tooth!) so nearly … [Read more...]
Make Monograms Using Collage Clay
I've been doing a few crafty trials with collage clay to see how it can be used. Here's a fun idea that worked out: an icing like monogram! In a recent post, I talked about decoden and showed you how to use collage clay to make a fun storage container. Before I made that project, I played around with Plaid's Collage Clay to see what else I could do with it. I love the way this monogram turned out, and my daughter really loves it!Since this was an "experiment" there are no … [Read more...]

How to Make the World’s Most Obnoxious Texas Mum for a Friend
I'm not from Texas, but I did go to high school here. I just kind of assumed that every high school had the tradition of homecoming mums. Apparently I was wrong. It turns out that homecoming mums are a uniquely Texas tradition, and that these mums have become 500% bigger since I was in high school. So when it was time to say goodbye to two members of my local blogger's group, OF COURSE I had to send them off with a loud, obnoxious Texas mum. Keep reading to learn how you can make one, … [Read more...]
DIY Night Light Round Up
When I sleep, the room needs to be completely dark for me to be comfortable. Any light in the room and I just can't fall asleep! My husband can nod off with the TV or radio on, but not me. Pitch black room, please! My kids are a completely different story. They HAVE to have a light on in their rooms at bedtime. All four of them insist on some sort of night light or they just cannot sleep! One of my sons needs a very bright light, the other two prefer a soft light, and my daughter likes her … [Read more...]
Back to School Teacher Gift: Decorated Hand Sanitizer Bottles
“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #StaplesBTS http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV” When I was a classroom teacher, one of my essential desk supplies was hand sanitizer. As any parent can attest to, a room full of children can get pretty germy! I always kept a small bottle in my desk for personal use, but I appreciated when parents would donate large bottles for classroom use. Now … [Read more...]
