I like coffee a LOT. “Like” might be an understatement. I have a coffee bar instead of a wine bar, and the Napolitan caffettiera is a big part of my dining room decor. I’m a coffee addict. So when I was invited to try International Delight’s new iced coffee, I jumped at the chance. I used the Caramel variety as a short cut for my favorite summer coffee drink, a Shakerato.
Growing up in Italy, I had caffe e latte for breakfast every morning. Warm milk, sugar and a bit of espresso….mmmmmmm. As an adult, every visit to a relative’s home meant the obligatory espresso. While I love espresso, a hot drink on a hot afternoon can be a little…..hot. I was so happy to finally be offered a chilled coffee drink on my last visit to Italy: a Shakerato! Espresso, sugar, and ice cubes mixed perfectly in a martini shaker and served in a martini glass. Coffee heaven!
Since most Americans don’t have real Italian espresso makers, I’m going to share a short cut with you. All you need to make your own Shakerato is International Delight Iced Coffee in your favorite flavor, ice cubes, a martini shaker, and a martini glass. In less than a minute you’ll have a hip, chilled coffee drink that’s perfect for the pool or any summer event.
Fill the shaker with ice and International Delight Iced Coffee.
Give it a few shakes.
Pour it into your martini glass.
Enjoy your chilled coffee drink with style!
Since I can’t stop myself from crafting everything in my house, I painted my martini glass.
I used foam spouncers and glass paint to make multi-colored circles on the outside of my glass. I used the colors of the Italian flag (red, white, and green) to match my Italian drink, the Shakerato. (Isn’t that fun to say? Do it with an Italian accent so it sounds authentic!)
The Shakerato is so quick and easy to make when you use International Delight Iced Coffee, and it’s the perfect pick me up for a hot afternoon. It’s also a fun drink for your summer get togethers too. Next time you order pizza for dinner, break out the martini glasses and International Delight Iced Coffee and have an Italian night, complete with a Shakerato!

Oooh! Yummo- can’t wait to try this! I love the glass you decorated too!
Grazie mille!
