Embellished Frames, part 2: Vintage Image Transfer
This isn't decoupage! These vintage butterfly images were transferred to the wood frame using a different method. Read on to learn more! Back in April I shared some ideas for decorating plain wood frames, and promised to show two more techniques for ways to embellish wood projects. This method involves transferring images using gel medium, like I did here, but this time I am using vintage images rather than making my own. This is different from decoupage! With this process you are … [Read more...]
Almost Free Watering Pails
Today I am excited to show you how to make these "Almost Free Watering Pails"! This quick project allows you to recycle, tend to your plants, and craft...win, win, win! You will need a plastic container that has a screw on cap and an arm. I used a recycled tea container and two apple juice containers. Then, spray paint them. I used paints by Krylon. I didn't remove the labels from mine since my colors were darker and covered them. If you were going with a light color you might … [Read more...]
Getting to Know Me?
Don't laugh, but this post is going to be hard for me. I don't really like talking about myself, and I tend to stick to just tutorials on my blog. But two lovely fellow bloggers have nominated me for two awards, so I'm going to play along. I'll try not to bore you. And, because I'm a teacher, there will be a quiz at the end of the post. So take notes. Kristin at A Vintage Fairy gave me this first award. I am so pleased she thought of me because I really admire her work. I love her … [Read more...]
How to Make a Gum ball Shirt
This colorful gum ball shirt, with balls that move around, is sure to bring a smile to any child's face! If you've been reading my blog, you may have noticed that I make a lot of things with items from the Dollar Tree, like this bowl and this easel. During one of my recent visits to DT I found a lot of nice quality T-shirts, and for $1 I couldn't pass them up. This is my first completed project: a fun gum ball shirt with balls that move! I used my Silhouette and a shape from their … [Read more...]
Dollar Tree Easel Makeover
Looking for a fun, quick project? Here's a way to turn some dollar store "art" into a chalk/clipboard! I started with this board on an easel that I found at the Dollar Tree. I had priced mini canvases and easels at the craft store ($$$) so I was thrilled to find the easel and board already assembled for $1!I painted on Mod Podge, pressed on some paper, and let it dry. After it had dried I cut off the excess and sanded the edges of the paper.I inked the edges of the paper … [Read more...]
Knock off Tray using Gel Medium Transfer Technique
I fell in love with the Typography line at Target, especially the numbers tray. I knew exactly how I would create my knock off: using gel medium to transfer the numbers! Read on to learn how quick and easy this process is! This is the tray I saw at Target. I embarrassed my oldest son by whipping out my camera to take pictures of several items in the line. Every time I do that he whines "WHAT are you doing?" Ha! Hey, kid, I can't help when inspiration strikes! Here is my knock … [Read more...]
Art Supply Caddy from Recycled Items
This adorable art supply caddy is perfect for little hands. No more dumping all the crayons out to find a certain color! It's also made from recycled items. In typical Morena fashion, I was shopping one day and saw a really cute crayon holder. I picked it up to look at the price and then put it down. I figured there had to be a way to make my own. So I kept looking for items that were the right size to make it. And, finally, I found them: in my recycle bin! I used a plastic cap … [Read more...]
More Fun with Buckle Up Bracelets: Headband and Belt
I was having so much fun creating with ribbon and buckle up bracelets that I made a couple of things. Here are two more variations you can try! This belt is made the same way I made my twill belt, only with a wider ribbon. You can find the full tutorial here. Next up, my five minute headband with a bracelet instead of a bow.As I did with the belt, I cut the bracelet, then glued it onto the ribbon with E6000. You can find the full tutorial here. The only variation is … [Read more...]
Twill Bracelet Belt
This fun little belt cost me less than $2 to make! I started with two buckle bracelets and twill ribbon. Cut the bracelets in half. Use E6000 to glue the bracelets to the ends of the ribbon, as pictured above. I let mine dry for a day and then I hand stitched where they overlap, just to reinforce it (not pictured). I wrapped coordinating ribbon to finish the belt. I folded the edge under and hand stitched the trim to hold it in place. It's such a fun, colorful belt … [Read more...]
